Brief and specific description of heroism or achievements: In battle to destroy an encircled group of Germans on July 7th, 1944 near Utovka and Lenin farm, comrade Sherman showed himself a brave and courageous officer. The Germans counterattacked with a superior force and threatened to break out of the encirclement. Comrade Sherman bravely faced the counterattack and killed up to 70 German soldiers and officers in battle. In this fight, comrade Sherman died the death of heroes. Comrade Sherman is worthy of posthumously receiving the Order of the Patriotic War 1st Class.
