Brief and specific description of personal heroism or achievements: Guards Sergeant S.P. Shunkov was fighting in the vanguard. He showed bravery and initiative in battle for the Anyushki, Godzivlya, and Sloboda settlements on June 28th, 1944. He killed 20 Germans with machine gun fire. After leaving the tank with a sapper's shovel, he killed several more Germans with the shovel and grenades.
He replaced the driver, who was knocked out, and continued the battle.
He is worthy of the state award "Order of the Patriotic War 1st Class".
